Topics I've Started

San Miguel Island

30 June 2015 - 10:47 AM

This last weekend I was able to go on a trip to San Miguel Island. SMI is one of the hardest islands in the Channel Islands chain to get to. This island is the most western and most exposed island of the Channel Islands. The water here is almost usually very cold. I was averaging 53 degrees for most of my dives. Thank goodness for a drysuit. With that said, SMI is also an excellent place for macro photography. It is full of nudibranches and other macro life. Here are some pictures from this weekend's trip to SMI:

Chuuk and Typhoon

30 March 2015 - 12:50 PM

Just saw on my FB that the island of Chuuk has been hit by a typhoon. If anyone here has been there to dive the wrecks, you know that the island very ill equipped to handle such a thing. I hope that all live on the island are okay and survive this storm. It is very unusual for a storm to hit this island. I hope that outside aid will be provided to the people of Chuuk. These are some of the nicest people I have ever met.

Would this cameras be ideal for UW? Say if you specialize in macro? Would love to hear others thoughts about these two cameras.

Santa Barbara Island

27 October 2014 - 03:19 PM

This last Saturday, went out on the Dive Boat "Magician" to Santa Barbara Island. We were orginally slated to goto SCI but it was closed by the military. We were only able to dive the front side of SBI due to the incoming swell. Overall, had three great dives. Here are some pictures from the day of diving at SBI:

Photographing Sea Lions

27 October 2014 - 01:18 PM

I was out diving Santa Barbara Island this last weekend. I was diving with the Sea Lions. My 5DM3 and my Ikelite strobes only will sync up to 1/200th or 1/250th I think. How do I shoot these guys when they are moving as 1/250th is to slow. I still get a lot of motion blur. Look forward to suggestions.
