SCUBA SHOW FLYER

18 May 2013 - 03:20 PM

I got my junk mail today and in it was the SCUBA Show flyer for the June 8-9 exposition.  Was pleased that they used one of my images for the flyer.  I've had several images show up on junk mail because I shoot stock, but it was surprising here because Kim & Dale Sheckler are local Southern Cal divers and photographers and I'd assume they would use their image.  Means it was an ad agency & designer that put this together.  Anyhow, here's the ad.

Magic Filter to a Nikon 60mm Macro

13 May 2013 - 02:26 PM

I was reading Alex's Magic Filter website and didn't find anything specific enough to know what the recommendation is to attach a Magic filter to a Nikon 60mm G lens.  I haven't pulled out my Nauticam and port with my D600 yet to see if I can use a screw on lens protector and just attach a gel filter to that in lieu of trying to rear mount the gel. Not sure if the lens will hit the port with that screw on filter.

Any suggestions as to whether my idea will work or how to attach a gel filter to the rear of the lens?

Olympus E-PM1 settings help

11 May 2013 - 08:40 AM

My wife has an Olympus E-PM1 and the Olympus housing and the instructions tell us to set the camera to underwater mode.  Their manual is as clear as mud on how to do this.  First, is it really necessary to set it to this mode? If she is shooting in RAW I'd think it won't matter if all the setting does is control WB.  But if the underwater setting actually affects mechanical functionality like wide angle and macro functionality, then I guess I will need to figure it out.  Can anyone shed some light on this and help me out?

I did try to follow the manual and it replaced the video record button with something else and I couldn't shoot video.  I reset the camera to factory default and am back to square one.

Thanks in advance for the help.

INON Z240 settings for Nikon D600

30 April 2013 - 05:00 PM

I just received my Inon Z240's and the manual is horrible.  I am trying to decipher how to set my system for manual hard wired.  I think I have it other than the Advanced cancer circuit switch.  I am supposed to push it in if I don't have a pre-flash.  I believe that Nikon DSLR's have a pre-flash but so fast you don't see it.  Do I have to engage the advanced circuit switch if I am shooting auto ttl or manual? A better tutorial on this strobe would also be very helpful if anyone knows of a link they can send me.

My very last frame from my D200 before I retired it

27 April 2013 - 04:22 PM

A few weeks ago I was diving Truth Aquatics on a northern island trip.  At that time I had no plans to look at a new system, but here we are a month later and I upgraded.  The final frame shot through my D200 before I sold it was this image.  Howard Hall once told me a story about how he shot his fantastic grey whale feeding shot in Laguna Beach, California.  Some of you may know that shot.  He got it on his very last shot of 36 frames, all 35 previous shots were trashed. For me, I didn't really expect a whole lot from my last dive until last week when I started editing.  My very last shot through my D200 was a keeper, not the spectacular plateau of Howard's image, but it's a keeper at least.  I bid thee farewell my ol trusty D200.
