Nautican D7100 housing AF-M switch not working

06 September 2014 - 09:06 AM

Since I purchased my Nauticam from Reef photo about 18 months ago I have had problems with the auto focus - manual focus selector switch.  I've muscled through it but now I've had it.  I am diving in about on Sept 18 so looking to see if anyone has any advice. The gear mechanism easily switching the camera from AF to manual, but it won't take the switch back to AF......there seems to be too much play in the connections.  I suppose I can use the AF on function but that is cumbersome if you have a quick need to focus and shoot. Focusing with one lever and shooting with another is an extra step in my mind....acceptable for static maybe but not for fish.  So has anyone had this problem and if so how was it solved? Is there a field repair or am I stuck sending it back to Reef photo? I am sure Reef photo would turn it around in time but the risk of not having my camera back for this trip is quite high. I tried to jam duct tape in the connecting areas to get rid of the sloppy movement but that didn't do anything. I also have enough know how to pull that part out if there's a "tightening" procedure, but don't want to go there is that isn't a viable solution.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Inon strobe knobs

15 April 2014 - 04:49 AM

I was diving on a 3-day out of Santa Barbara and saw someone with aftermarket knobs for his Inon strobes.  The knobs had flats (as opposed to being round) making it way easier to turn them while wearing thick gloves.  Anyone have a link to where I might purchase some?

Thanks,

DJI Phantom GoPro helicopter

09 April 2014 - 08:24 AM

Hello all,

I am interested in buying the latest GoPro aerial system and was wondering if the tool of choice for the Hero 3+ black is the DJI Phantom Quad Copter and gimbal system like this one: http://www.bhphotovi...ml/prm/alsVwDtl

I currently have the GoPro and want to make sure I am closing all the gaps of performance by purchasing all the needed accessories and main unit up front. For example, are the batteries individual AA where I can use my own or are they some sort of proprietary pack?

In your experience (those who have used this system or something similar) what are your warnings, recommendations, tricks of the trade etc?

Any help is appreciated.

My Xmas & New Year trip to Fiji

27 March 2014 - 05:23 AM

Last December and into January I spent three weeks in Fiji.  This was a little different trip than staying at a group dive resort.  We stayed at a non-diving resort on an island just off the coast of Taveuni. They only had four bures. Very private. No crowds.  All diving was arranged through Taveuni Divers, who had to make a special trip to our island every day to pick me and my wife up.  The original "custom" booking was for three private boat dives a day and a simple shore dive from our resort (less than spectacular, but doable as a photographer).  The manager of the resort who also worked with Taveuni Divers quit just before we left on our trip and everything fell apart at that point. So I did have to rattle a few cages to get "some" of what I originally booked.  In any event the resort management from Rainbow Reef Resorts and Muriel at Taveuni Divers did a fantastic job of making some of my trip align with the original plan.

Here are a few topside shots and underwater images I like. These four were shot with a Zen mini dome, Tokina 10-14. I love that set up.
