Unknown white shrimp in Scottish Trawl

25 April 2008 - 08:54 AM

Hello all,

I've got a shrimp \ prawn that needs IDing if anyone can help? we found it in a number of trawls from the North Minch, in the sea area to the west of Lewis (Outer Hebrides, Scotland, UK) in a depth of approximately 100-120m. They were caught in demersal trawl gear while fishing for Nephrops, but I don't have the right keys to ID them. Can anyone suggest what they are please?

Thanks very much :P

Unknown Red Fish from Trawl

26 March 2008 - 05:35 AM

I know this isn't an underwater photo as such, so apologies for that. This fish came up in a demersal trawl last week from a depth of 100-120m, and was caught off the west coast of Lewis (Outer Hebrides, Scotland). I suspect it may be a bathyal species, as it doesn't appear in my usual ID guides, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sealoch Anemone, Scotland - any tips?

22 January 2008 - 08:46 AM

Hiya

not been on this forum long, but I'm hoping to learn a lot here. I've recently upgraded my 400d to underwater use, and I've had it in for about 3 dives so far. I'm loving the improved image quality, but I'm also very aware that the learning curve is crazy-steep and any help would be great!

This is one shot that I quite like from a dive in Loch Long last weekend. Do you have any tips re. lighting, angle etc?

Taken with a Canon 400d + 60mm macro + single DS51 strobe to the left.
It's been slightly cropped, but not by a lot.

EXIF: F4, 1/200s, +1/3 exposure.

Hello everyone!

Hello!

I've just joined this site, and am wondering why I didn't do it sooner! I'm Rosanna Milligan, and I've recently graduated as a marine biologist from Glasgow uni (Scotland, UK). I've been diving for 6 years and started photographing underwater 2 years ago with an E900 + Ikelite housing. after working as a wildlife guide near Oban for a bit, I got a DSLR (400D) and have recently aquired a housing for it with a macro lens and tokina 10-17mm. I'm hopelessly new at this UW photography thing, so I'll probably be on here for plenty of advice once I've got shots worth looking at!

I'm currently back at glasgow uni working as a proper scientist for a bit and trying to get myself organised to sell a few prints to tide me over when I'm between jobs (as will inevitably happen eventually!). I have a website (listed in my profile), on which any comments are gratefully received.

Happy diving
