#361949 Strobe Technique Tips...

Posted by NWDiver on 08 June 2015 - 06:50 AM

I have never used TTL.  When I see amazing shots it is often due to the creative way people have lit them.  So to the above I would ad, be creative with your strobe positioning.  Here is an old Powerpoint presentation I did. https://www.youtube....h?v=ldCw80PSugY

It's the shots at Wetpixel that make me think "wow how did they light that?" I find  inspiring.

#361358 Going from DX - 4/3s - FX - Compact, My Digital De-Evolution

Posted by NWDiver on 20 May 2015 - 01:24 PM

Something I put together about how I have come to the conclusion a Compact camera is all the camera I need for my underwater shooting.  Covers costs of the different systems, issues with traveling, how many megapixels do you really need. All based on what am I really doing with my photos???  Plus my experience over 200hrs underwater shooting a compact system.

Sorry to lazy to figure out how to post it with photos here, so here is the link: http://www.aquablued...al-de-evolution

A couple of photos from said system and our last trip to Ambon, Indonesia on the Dewi Nusantara

Another great trip to Kasawari in Lembeh http://www.kasawari-lembeh.com.  Built for photogs with excellent guides and camera room.  The staff is fantastic, the better half ran into some Fire Coral and required a run to the Bitung ER, the Kasawari staff was wonderful as where the good doctors at the local hospital.  She was good the next day and back in the water, another story for another forum.

#336170 Right place, right time, chance to help a manta.

On a recent trip to Raja Ampat we happened to be at the right place at the right time, or so we like to think.  Recording it was inconsequential.

#331298 17-40 vs 15mm on 5D MKIII for Galapagos: your input?

Posted by NWDiver on 13 May 2013 - 06:28 AM

I would start with the 17-40 or the 16-35.  Get your solo hammerhead, sealion shots in the can.  Then once you have those put on the 15mm and you can go for the big school shots and if lucky up close whale shark shots.

#327761 Diving with two full-gear

Posted by NWDiver on 13 March 2013 - 05:57 AM

Not two DSLRs, but this is a rig I just dove in Raja.  Don't you hate it when the Dive Guide says "on this dive we can see mantas and pygmy seahorses".... and yes I did get photos of both, on one dive.  Bottom camera is the Oly EM5 with the Oly 60mm Macro Lens.  Top is the Sony RX100 with the Inon H100 and Dome.

This set up has the Oly with the Lumix 8mm Fish Eye.  I did have to take the sun shade off the Sony RX100 or it showed in the Oly shots.  In this line up I used the Sony more to shoot Video while taking photos with the Olympus OMD.

Great trip, excellent boat and a destination worth repeating... HD video with stills. Using Canon XA10/Gates and Nikon D7000 & Aquatica.

#319484 Sony NEX-6 Samyang 8mm vs Nikon D90 Tokina 10(-17)mm

Posted by NWDiver on 30 October 2012 - 05:59 AM

Thanks for the comparison, but remember no good deed goes unpunished, lol. I think many "were" excited about the Sony line but the lens issues have tempered that excitement. The OMD has caught on because it is a good camera and with it's line-up of lenses everyone can go out TODAY. Sold my D7000 gear, taking the Sony RX100 on the net trip and still on the fence with OMD vs. Sony Nex vs. Fuji. Question is can people (me) wait till spring for the new Zeiss lenses??? Will there be a new version of the Nex7 between now and then??? Interested to see more on the Nex6.
