Just noticed that Ricoh have relased (in Australia anyway - we are probably a year behind everyone else ) the new Ricoh DX 200 compact digital camera. From the photos of it that I saw it looks almost as if it is the DX 100 (which is what our camera is) with the internal functions / software etc improved - it will be interesting to see if it will fit straight into our cases without any modification

I read on a forum somewhere that there were just enough differences in the two cameras, primarily the location of some controls to make the Dx 200 not compatible with the housing.
Too bad, maybe they will make the software upgrades available.

I have a focus light that I got from 10Bar - www.10bar.com - from Hong Kong and it works a treat, I believe it is also the one sold by Fantasea. It has a built in light sensor that turns the focus light off when it detects the flash therefore negating any hotspot or backscatter issues.

At the moment I have it mounted on the housing with the hotshoe adaptor but after reading Martin Edges' book I am trying new methods with my flash - so on my next dive I am going to mount the flash on the housing and the focus light on the arm and see how I go.

I have just ordered that same light and set up, so I'll be interested to learn how your experiment goes.

My last dive I started messing around in aperture mode, with promising results. My problem, even with my new prescription mask....is reading some of the finer stuff on the viewscreen UW. I do want to start using the manual mode though.....Im not all that impressed with the cameras autofocus.

I have a similar problem reading the info in the viewfinder, I am going to add a focus light and I am getting some 2.0 diopters for my mask. I found the autofocus to be just fine, I used manual exposure mode.

Thanks, I shot in manual mode the entire time. I found it very easy to dial i n the exposure with the strobe. Indonesia is an amazing destination. Lots of current though.
