In Topic: Is 3D in decline before it even takes off on broadcast TV?

23 March 2014 - 03:05 PM

I bought a 7 series Samsung 65" 3D TV almost a year ago.  I wasn't searching for a 3D TV, just a good quality TV.  So far we LOVE the 3D feature.  As far as IMAX and the theaters, I like some features in 3D, but others I don't really care for.  The first Hobbit I saw in 3D, and wished I hadn't afterwards.  Other action movies at home I absolutley enjoy.  I hope it's not in decline as some are speculating.  I really wish they'd start filming Football in 3D!!

In Topic: Bali or Similan Islands?

21 March 2014 - 05:26 AM

I've been to both spots and  prefer the Similians.  MUCH more soft, and hard coral than Bali.  Personaly, I will never stay on Bali again.  The traffic and trash is enough to kill it for me.  Tulamben is nice, of course like you mentioned the wreck is the highlight.  It will take you 3-4 hours to get to Tulamben from Denpasar.   Morning time dives are best like you mention, for the bumpheads ;)  As far as the other Tulamben sites, I thought they were OK.   Diving the Padang Bai area was not very good to us.  The best Bali diving for us was like Mike mentioned, Nusa Penida for the Manta's and Mola's.

The Similians for me was just phenominal.  The diving was superior to Bali, and I found getting around was much easier.  Also, the food and nightlife was superior Phuket vs. Kuta.  Now, here's the unknown for me...  I went to the Similians in 2010.  I thought I heard that there was serious bleaching damage in '11.  Maybe someone can verify if this is true and how much damage was done.  IF it was real bad, then Bali might be the alternative.

Thank's for all the assistance everyone....

Mike - If I'm understanding you, you're asking the root path?  If so, this is the catalog path...

/Users/Admin/pictures/lightroom

Catalog name is...

Lightroom 4 catalog.Ircat

In this catalog, I have about 20 subfolders, half of those are folders with the question marks and missing pics.  Previews are still present in the library though.

Cary - Great idea and thanks for the contact!  The folks over at the LR flicker group have been helping, but so far nothing conclusive.  I'll check the LR forums Okuna mentions also, thanks Okuna :)

Erik - I've tried searching filenames through the finder search.  Problem is, because of the way I import daily, I have files with the same number designation.  Just different dates.  As far as I know, and I'm a Mac dummy for sure, is that the search feature in the finder is the only one?  As far as "Why" they got moved...maybe we'll figure that out if we find the missing files?  I still think about the virus angle too....  I mean, I've never seen a computer do what it did that night.  Creating and deleting multiple temporary folders on my desktop...just while I was watching and not doing anything??  Is that a normal Mac thing???  It was that next day the issues popped up...so just a thought.

David - I've always imported them using the import function in LR straight from the SD card.  Now, of course, I know to do it differntly.  Like I mentioned though, I've been doing it this way for 5 years and this is the first time I've had this kind of issue.  I utilize the same couple of SD cards for my whole trip, which means basicly I'm importing then reformatting the cards daily.

Thanks again guys!

Greg
