Inon strobe - how is the water getting in?

12 June 2017 - 04:22 AM

I have an Inon Z240 strobe that is getting water in the battery compartment. I've checked all oring sealing surfaces and they look fine. The oring has been switched out for a brand new one and the water is still getting in.

2 floods, 2 different orings. Both orings look perfect and the installation was fine.

Is there any other way for the water to get into this compartment? Ie. not through the cap/oring.

Stuck pixels wrecking video

24 April 2017 - 03:34 AM

I've always been a stills shooter underwater, but when I won a video light in a photo competition recently I thought what the heck, I'd make an attempt at shooting some video for a change.

First thing I notice when I get the footage on my computer screen is that I seem to have some stuck pixels, particularly a decent-sized red spot near the middle of the frame. I guess these have always been mapped out with my images in Lightroom, so I never really knew they were there.

Help! What can I do? It's awful, and completely ruins the video.

I am shooting with a Canon 5D Mark II. It's a camera I've had for years (well out of warranty).

Thank you Wetpixelites!

Non-firing Inon strobe - what's up with that?

03 April 2017 - 01:01 AM

I have an Inon Z240 strobe that has stopped firing. It seems to charge up okay, the focus light works, but I'm unable to get it to fire, either optically or electrically. I'm not sure what burnt out flash tubes look like, but visually they look fine to me. No obvious sign anywhere of water getting in. What do you reckon is wrong with it?

Sea & Sea sync cords - different metals available?

22 March 2017 - 09:21 AM

I've been having issues with corrosion of my Sea & Sea sync cords where they thread into my housing. I seem to have 2 different cords in my collection (different metals for the screw fittings). One corrodes badly, the other is okay. I'd like to buy more cords of the type that don't corrode, but I'm told that they aren't sold anymore. Does anyone have experience with this?
This photo shows the cord that's working for me (the tick) and the one that isn't (the cross).

EDIT: see photo below

Who shares on Instagram?

13 February 2017 - 09:16 AM

I'm interested in following some more underwater photographers on Instagram. Do you share your photos on Instagram? What underwater photographers do you follow?

You're welcome to follow me, or not. It's totally up to you! :-)
