G'day everyone,
Finally getting more into underwater photography there is no way around Wetpixel - looking forward to sharing information and gathering advice!
I learned diving in the lakes of Switzerland, having done around 200 dives there and at other (nicely warm) places before relocating to Sydney, Australia, on a contract for 2 years. I definitely enjoy the diving down here - not even in winter it is necessary to have a dry suit or a thermos bottle of hot water to warm the wet suit and body before the dive! Diving in Sydney is excellent - and I didn't even get much into boat diving yet as the shore dives are truly fantastic! The most memorable experience I made happened only a few weeks ago, when my buddy Matt and me were close to be swam over by a humpback whale (see flickr...)
After snapping around with a Sony DSC-P200 P&S for a few years I finally bought myself a Canon G9 with Ikelite housing and Inon Z240 strobe. I am just getting used to the new possibilities and especially the handling of the strobe. Any criticism and comments on my pictures are therefore most appreciated!
Ok, enough of me... I usually post my better shots on my flickr page (including the ones taken with the old camera). I recently also set up a thumbnail gallery of my underwater shots with the G9.
Nice to meet you all!

About Me
Hi there!
I learned diving 2002 in the Swiss lakes, completing the whole set of courses up to the PADI DM in the local waters. Diving is my passion, no matter if the dive spot is located in a murky Swiss lake or in the crystal clear water of the Red Sea. Getting into underwater photography changed my mind a bit though. In 2005 I bought a Sony DSC-P200 point and shoot and packed it in an Ikelite housing. This was a great little toy do take some snaps in the lakes, and good enough to carry along on my dive holidays.
In January 2007 I moved to Australia. Suddenly diving is not just about great deep walls and seeing a fish every other dive - there are so many different species to observe around Sydney! I took along my little camera on every dive, realising more and more the limitations of this little toy. In May 2008 I finally purchased a Canon G9 with an Ikelite housing and an Inon Z-240 strobe. A whole new world! I am still very new to serious underwater phtotgraphy, just about to getting used to the manual camera settings and the handling of the strobe.
Please let me know what you honestly think about my pictures, there is still so much to learn for me. But I am definitely enjoying it!!
Btw, if you are looking for a buddy for a few dives around Sydney let me know, I am almost always keen on getting wet!
Cheers,
roland

Behavior ID of nudibranch (Pteraeolidia ianthina)

I am a newbie on this forum...kick me out if this is not the thread for this sort of questions...seemed most appropriate to me...
The two pictures of the nudibranch (Pteraeolidia ianthina) were taken within a minute. Can someone tell me what it is doing on the right hand picture? What is this white bit at the tip of the arrow? An idea I heard so far: inverting the stomach like other species?
