New Bite-Back Campaign Film

04 November 2012 - 05:48 AM

Bite-Back Shark and Marine Conservation released their new campaign film, a grizzly view of the practice of shark finning, on October 31st to coincide with halloween. The film was intended for TV, but was deemed to graphic and disturbing. It was, however, shortlisted for a Panda award for best Campaign film at this year's Wildscreen Festival, alongside Brazilian Friend Finder (Greenpeace) and the winning film, Trust Alaska (WITNESS in co-production with Our Children's Trust & iMatter Campaign USA).

You can read more about the film and the campaign on the Bite Back web site at the following page;

http://www.bite-back...end-the-horror/

It's a powerful film, perhaps depicting old news to many of the seasoned divers who frequent the boards, however the general non-diving public are still very much in the dark about this type of practice. Please spread the word, with your help it will go viral.

With thanks

I thought best to do a bit of digging first to ensure that it wasn't a case of sour grapes from someone, and found this article on the Cyprus Mail

http://www.cyprus-ma...sharks/20120718

Andreas Panayiotou, the director of Napa Sea Cruises that Zenobia Dive is part of was quoted as saying

“Everyone does it, we’re not the only ones… it’s not forbidden if you’ve got your licences,” he said, adding that if they don’t have the right the police should come and stop them.

Not only guilty as charged, but completely unrepetant as well

So, if you find yourself in Cyprus and fancy a bit of diving, make sure you give your trade to a dive cente other than Zenobia Dive.

This year’s Bite-Back at Cancer Ball (BBAC) is set to be bigger and better following news that it will be held in the prestigious surroundings of The Underglobe, beneath Shakespeare’s Globe, on the south bank of the Thames, on Saturday 20 October 2012.

Priority tickets for this exclusive event have just gone on sale and, until 31 August, cost £85 per person, representing £5 off the standard price ticket (£90 from 1 September).

To streamline the booking process, individual and group tickets can now be purchased by credit and debit cards via the Simply Scuba web site.

http://www.simplyscu...012-ticket.aspx

Coordinator for the BBAC Ball, Stuart Keasley, said: “Two sell-out years in a row plus enthusiastic feedback from attendees meant it was time to move the event to a bigger and more impressive venue. The Underglobe is set to combine all the elegance of a high class evening with all the fun and informality of a dive event. We expect tickets to sell fast.”

All the money raised from the event, including the exclusive auction and raffle, will go to fund the important work of two charities, Bite-Back Shark and Marine Conservation and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

More information about the event can be found at www.bitebackatcancer.org.

=======================================================

I'll update this thread with information on the prize draw, auction lots and other sponsorship news. We've a tough target to beat for what will be the sixth BBAC Charity Ball, with over £19,000 raised last year!!

Hope to see you there

Cheers

Stuart
