Nice job again Dustin.

I know it's your style but I would not crush black that much because it will look too much black on uncalibrated screen like tv or projector.

But maybe it just me. :)

Ok, another lazy test.

Min size to fill the frame. GH4 + pz 14-42 at 42mm.
Please note, this is not magnification test and wet diopter will work completely different when underwater.

  • CMC 17mm at 4cm
  • SMC 24mm at 6cm
  • Aquako IV (2.5x) : 20mm at 5cm
  • Subsee +5 : 40mm at 10cm
  • Subsee +10 : 27mm at 6cm

btw, it was very interesting how you attache zoom gear on pz 14-42.

I haven't try this lens underwater yet but so far footage looks reasonably sharp and OIS working well.
I think it should be good for medium size shot in mid water with handheld (Thanks Peter).

Ok, just lazy quick topside test. Min size to fill the frame.
GH4 + Oly 60mm.
Nauticam CMC : 8mm subject at 2.7cm
Nautcam SMC : 10mm subject at 2.8cm
Aquako IV (2.5x) : 8mm subject at 2.2cm
Subsee +5 : 11mm subject at 3.2cm
Subsee +10 : 9mm subject at 1.7cm
I guess CMC will be best choice for 60mm and personally I'll bring down CMC and Aquako IV with 60mm.
I'll try to do similar test with 14-42 when I have port.

Would love some comparisons with the Nauticam SMC, CMC and the Aquako +15.

Just got Nauticam CMC so hopefully I can try all three with 60mm and 14-42 soon. Water temp still damn cold here (3~5C) for macro shooting. :(

There was a firmware update to version 1.1 for the Olympus 60mm macro in September. "MF shooting operations have been improved." Might be worth trying for those having trouble.

You can find firmware here (Oly 60mm update for Panasonic camera body).

Yup, sometime I add 1 or 2 Jumbo stix floats depends on the light configuration (2 x sola 5k + 2 x Fix 7k).

I saw a photo of your rig with Stix floats on the arms. Have you dumped them now? And do you use just the 2 carbon float arms for both macro with tripod and for wide angle?

I'm just thinking for recording underwater audio. Often that audio gets thrown away but sometimes it's useful. Seems worth doing if possible as the Shogun features high quality audio recording.

Interesting. I would have thought the buoyancy of that dome would pull the front up anyway. I now have the equivalent Nauticam dome but not got my rig underwater yet.

Interesting stuff, compared to the 16-35 II how do you compare it with regards to corner sharpness?

I find better corner with 16-35 f/4 then f/2.8L II but maybe it's negligible behind the dome.

I been testing 16-35mm f4 topside with f2.8 II. New f4 is sharper corner and have better lens coating (better sunball).
I couldn't try it behind dome but still if I don't have f2.8 then I would buy f4. IMHO, both lens will give you better sharpness and contrast then 17-40.

Guys, a quick info.
The new Nauticam 180mm dome for the 7-14mm is it glass or plastic? Does it need an extra ring?
I found it on several shop online (I guess) but always without info if it's for mirrorless system or DSRL.
I got behind on new toys lately.

Hi Davide, I have that Nauticam dome (prototype) and it's glass, no need extension for 7-14mm.

I think they'll release it soon.

Nice. What does "by wire" mean?

It's completely different feel from mechanical manual focus lens (Canon 100mm and 60mm in my case).

I think because the focus motor does not 100% follow my pulling speed.

Wow that is not something I could afford to do on a regular basis but then I suppose you could shoot another fan lol. Maybe a less powerful diopter would be fine too and if you need some clear image zoom or whatever panasonic calls it loose bit of quality but keep working distance reasonable

I have some footage with less powerful wet lens. I'll try to post GH4 highlight video (WA + Macro) when I'll be back from Indonesia.

BTW, Ex Tele mode (in-camera zooming effect?) not working when 4K mode.

I saw twelve of them

I could spot only 7.  :notworthy:
