Soon taking a dive trip to Belize. A friend and I have been wanting to do this for years, it's finally happening. I've been on a handful of ocean dives, i.e. not much experience -- novice.
After reading a lot of posts on this board, I bought a Canon WP-DC12 to house my husband's Canon A570 IS. We already had the camera and it seemed like the best solution, being new to underwater photography and not really knowing how often it will be used.
I do a fair amount of photography with a Nikon D40; I 'get' the Canon, but it's not second nature like the Nikon.
I do not have a strobe.
Is it possible for a novice diver to easily manage a few good snaps? Will the lack of a strobe result in very disappointing photos? Do I need silicon gel packs inside the camera housing? This is not mentioned in the housing manual. And last question, it's not clear to me if I should take the camera out of the housing at the end of each dive day, or if it's ok to leave it in the housing for five straight days of diving. (That even sounds like a dumb question to me, but I need to ask!)
Last question: I would love to see more of your photos from dives in Belize, please post links to pix!
