Talk about a "bait and switch"....They ask you "why was the shark friendly?" and then throw "man-eating sharks" in the title of the article. Sigh....

Niice sharks.. It woud be nice if you could get rid of the sunballs and background obstacles. Thanks for sharing Al

Interesting, I was actually trying to get sunballs as I rather like them (although some are admittedly a bit overexposed). Definitely agree on the background obstacles, however.

Wauww....where was this?
This was taken in the south pass of Fakarava, in the Tuamotus, French Polynesia. Some of the best diving in the world, in my opinion. Hundreds of sharks every day, you just drift right into them through the pass.

I believe I did have to pay some excess baggage fee for my checked bag, but I don't believe it was as high as in the U.S. The fee was per kg over, so not too bad. Also, I think there is a 2 kg allowance for dive gear that helps. I don't think they weighed my carry-ons.

We stayed at the Out of the Blue villas in Puerto Galera: http://www.outoftheb... The diving there was very good (maybe not as good as Anilao, from what I hear, but still very good). Here is my gallery from the trip (most of the macro is from Puerto Galera):
We LOVED Out of the Blue. I think we paid $180 USD / night for a 2 bedroom penthouse with a 1000 sq ft private terrace where we enjoyed $10/hr private massages every day after diving. Check them out on TripAdvisor -- they probably have the best reviews of any place I've seen. We stayed in Villa 10; however it doesn't look that one is listed on there website right now (they mentioned they were doing re-modeling, so that may be it). The villas numbered above 10 are brand new and were under construction when we were there, so they should be very nice. Here is a photo of our view:
