#340934 Your Favourite/Best Image of 2013

Posted by DiverPam on 20 December 2013 - 07:01 PM

I anxiously await this thread every year...it is so full of treasures.  So hard to choose...but here are my top two favorites.   Both of these were taken during Digital Madness in Grand Cayman.

I love jawfish and catching this yawn was especially fun.

This was my first outing with silversides and also photographing freedivers.

#330618 Boat Water Entry with Camera Gear Methods

Posted by DiverPam on 30 April 2013 - 06:09 PM

Hand it to you method.  Not worth the risk and the cost.   This coming from personal experience....holding it in hand years ago and flooding was the result.

Think about this...the only cost to pop back up and reach over and get your rig from the dive guide is a few extra seconds. But the potential cost to rolling in or holding it while rolling or striding off the boat - $1000s and no pictures for your dive trip.   And with what we spend and or time to get to some of our destinations, a few extras seconds every time is well worth it.

Just my 2 cents worth today - DiverPam

#327895 +10 Wetdiopter instead of SubSea?

Posted by DiverPam on 14 March 2013 - 03:19 PM

How do these compare for ease of use?  Does the Aquatica Close Up Kit have to be put on before the dive or can it be moved out of the way underwater like the subsee? Or changed out?

#327594 Advice on a new set up for D800

Posted by DiverPam on 09 March 2013 - 08:53 PM

Jean Bruneau (Viz Art on the forums here) is an Aquatica rep.  He is on here often.  You might want to try and contact him about this.

Jean - Hope I spelled your name right.

Good luck with your setup. Let us know what you come up with. - Pam

There are some nice behavior shots in there - yawning, sharing space with other (a fish laying on top of a shrimp), and mouth to mouth.  Thanks for sharing your trip with us. I enjoyed looking through the set - Pam

#325843 Iconic Underwater Images, Can you name them?

Posted by DiverPam on 07 February 2013 - 03:17 PM

I agree with Phil. Flip Schulke, Douglas Faulkner, Gerry Greenberg, Bates Littlehales, Bill Curtsigner and many others including David Doubilet, probably the best known one these days were pioneers and David is still pushing the envelope on a daily basis. Jim & Cathy Church taught us underwater photography, especially those like me who were living in remote "foreign" places where scuba divers were so few... let alone u/w photographers. They set the wheel in motion and inspired generations. All those who followed in their footsteps benefited from their innovative techniques or unique look on the u/w realm. Some tools may have seem primitive compared to contemporary imaging computers we carry in our housings. in the end, the only thing that matters, to paraphrase DD's book title: Water, Light, Time. Maybe Wetpixel could start a virtual gallery of iconic images... and the story behind them... food for thought.

Michel - I really like your idea of a gallery of iconic images over the life of UW photography on wetpixel and their stories. And maybe even why we think they are iconic.

Let us know what you come up with Steve. Don't forget to consider images you consider iconic and why. - DiverPam
