Sigma 15mm FE w/ikelite 8" dome on full frame?

29 July 2011 - 11:19 AM

Can anyone who has used this lens and dome combo report their experience? I'm searching for something wider than my 17-40, and curious as to the less expensive alternates to the Canon 14mm. From what little I've been able to find on the 'net, the Sigma 14mm has some troubling reports, and while I'm not sue I want a FE Lens I'm curious to the 15mm's application with the outfit...

General observations and any particular issues with vignetting and/or corner sharpness are most welcomed. Thanks!!

How long do you think it's safe to leave housing assembled?

17 July 2011 - 09:34 AM

I have a bit of a concern...I will be hopping on the boat and cruising the western Bahamas for about 5-7 days here in a few weeks, mostly for relaxing and fishing. I'd like to get in the water with my Canon 5DII Ikelite housing/8" dome, probably every day to do some photography, as we'll be around sharks, shipwrecks, and general beautiful u/w locations. But I really won't be able to do anything more for my gear than a good freshwater rinse after each splash during this time.

Would you feel okay assembling the camera/housing and leaving it assembled during the whole week, with nothing more than periodic rinses, or is this not a wise idea to leave the o-rings compressed for this length of time? I appreciate your thoughts, thanks!

Heinrichs-Weikamp Optical Digital Adapter for Nikonos Sync Cords

Hey folks, thought I'd post this here before trying on eBay ;)

I bought this device (it's only the round plexiglass part in the pic-not the cable) to use with my Canon A590 P&S and my Nikonos SB-102 flash, and it worked great. I used it underwater one time, and have since upgraded my whole setup to a DSLR so it's no longer needed.

If you don't know, this device attaches to the end of your nikonos strobe cable, and when you mount it externally to your housing (see above sample pic) it will trigger the nikonos flash via the P&S flash in-housing, and utilize TTL technology. It's pretty amazing.

It sells for $159 new (at Reef Photo in USA), I'll sell it for $100 shipped and paypaled to anywhere in US. I may need to look at shipping to outside US to add additional shipping costs.

I have 100% ebay rating, just search so_fl :D

Here's the manufacturer's Site: (note there's a PDF manual here too):
