Sony 10-18 f4 e-mount lens

04 April 2013 - 09:32 PM

Dear all,

Just wondering if the new Sony 10-18 f4 e-mount lens will be the new WA flagship lens for UW photography with the Nex series (especially the NEX-7). Any UW reviews?
Also, has anyone seen the Nauticam port for it?

Nikor 60mm Macro with wet diopter

02 February 2013 - 07:39 AM

Hey all,

I have finally decided to buy the Ikelite housing for my Nikon D7000 (cannot afford another brand and I currently own a DS160 and 161). However I went to a Nikon centre yesterday and tried out the 60mm f2.8, the 85mm f3.5 and the 105mm f2.8.
My preference goes for the 85mm but everyone is raving about 60mm. My concern is that using the 60mm for the macro that I want to do, I need to be at 5cm (2inches) from my subject whereas with the 85mm, I can be at double that distance from my subject. Now, I do not know very much about photography, but if I add a wet Subsee +10 diopter, will I be able to get a few more cm (or inches) away from my subject if I use the 60mm?

I will most probably be buying the Ikelite dedicated flat port for the 60 or 85mm. Is there a 67mm thread on those ports? If not, what diopter holder would you recommend? I don't really want to spend 500USD on a diopter holder.

Thanks so much for your support.

Nikon D7000 or Olympus OM-D E-M5?

11 November 2012 - 11:00 PM

Hey there,

After all the readings, I was going to order my Nikon D7000 and the Ikelite housing for it. I currently own a DS160 and 161 strobe as I was going to upgrade from my canon G9....

I know that the OM-D is not a DSLR, but from the readings that I did, it looks like the OM-D is not a bad camera at all and very similar to the D7000. If I consider the setup price, they both are about the same for the camera, lenses and housing (Nauticam for OMD).
If I'd go for the OMD, I would have sell my Ikelite strobes and buy 2 Z240, giving me a lighter setup.

Just wondering what your thoughts the quality of the D7000 over the OMD.

Cheers and thanks for all the great help.

Questions on Ikelite D7000 housing, ports and lenses.

Questions on Ikelite D7000 housing, ports and lenses.

Hi there,

I have been reading and reading, and I think it's time for me to move away from my Canon G9 in Ikelite housing, with 2DS strobes to a DSLR.
On land, we have a D7000 for family shots and I'm thinking of buying a second one for UW.
Unfortunately, I'm on a tight budget, so it will have to be the Ikelite housing.

Lens wise, from the research/reading I have done, I will start of with

  • a Tokina 10-17 and
  • a Nikon 60 AF-D for now (is that the correct one?)
  • and hopefully a 105mm later
Now, I was wondering what ports I should get.
  • For the 60mm, should I get the Ikelite standard flat port (with plastic lens) or the modular port (with glass lens, so better quality?) That way I can use it later with the 105? Although the modular port also has more potential of water entry as you screw several parts together Posted Image Ultimately, it would be great if there was a 67mm thread so I can add a Subsee 10+ diopter too (with the 105)
  • For the Tokina, should I go with a dome? The Ikelite one (if so, which one)? or the one from UWcamerastuff?
Another (silly) question, do the ports come with the zoom gear? Or do I have to order them separately?

Thanks a lot for all your support,
