More Carmel Bay - Diving Butterfly House

12 May 2013 - 04:01 PM

Good conditions continue in Central California. I was diving Butterfly House in Carmel with my buddy Mike and his friend Charles who is relatively new to this whole diving thing. Turned out to be a great day to show off our excellent local diving. Now all Charles needs is a drysuit and he'll be all set.

Carmel Bay in Good Vis

29 April 2013 - 03:06 PM

It's amazing how fast conditions can change in Central California. A week ago the vis was barely 3-5 feet. It looked more like Hawaii Saturday. Really amazing blue water.

California Gray Whale

28 January 2013 - 11:13 AM

So my buddies Rob and Allison and I were swimming back along the sand channel at Point Lobos near the end of a very nice dive in Whaler's Cove. We came across a school of tube-snouts which for some random reason I decided to try and photograph. I know they're too small and too scattered for the 10-17 but there weren't any other subjects so I gave it a go. Which meant that about 20 seconds later when this magnificent beast swam by that I had the camera ready to go with an appropriate exposure, etc. I was slightly ahead of the other 2 and for a brief moment I thought about signaling them so they didn't miss it but thought better of it and started shooting. I was very relieved when I turned around after the whale was gone to see that they had indeed seen the whale! Amazing way to finish a dive even if it was only a 15 second encounter.
