In Topic: Comparing Canon: PowerShot G1 X Mark II vs 70d

07 September 2014 - 07:34 PM

Hi Kyle,

Those two cameras are really quite different.

The answer you're looking for is the 12-50mm Olympus M43 lens. It has a macro option on the lens that with Nauticam's gears and port you can access underwater.

I believe there was an underwater setting discussed elsewhere in the forum but I have a feeling the firmware updates stopped this?

I was massively into the G11 (Which I had for a long time and served me very well) and then I started frothing on the G1X mk2... but the thing is, in my opinion, they're just not that good for UW use.

Plus, having to stick to one subject underwater might help hone your skills :D

Good luck!

I stressed the same as you and bought an E-M1.

Just how it feels in the hand... wow.

The only thing that would come to it for me would be the A7s but really, the E-M1 is a tool in every sense of the word.

In Topic: Malaria

AFAIK, malarone is not the treatment upon contraction of malaria (I got ~600 mosquito bites in the Amazon thinking that it did and thus didn't bother covering up, haha) but I think it helps in the beginning?

I'm not sure, really - this is why you pay a professional to advise you rather than a bunch of nerds :D

Or you could look at it this way - roll the dice! But as I get older and have more people (Well, it's been my girlfriend for the past ~5 years) to care about the more I realise I don't want to say goodbye so it's perhaps worth it to be safe and not be as cool.

Your chances are pretty slim, though...

In Topic: Hammerheads

I've seen hammerheads in one place and that was the Galapagos - not out at Wolf and Darwin but at Gordon's Rocks.

As far as I know, if you want hammerheads - Galapagos liveaboards and Cocos liveaboards are the best options but Mapelo sounds pretty epic.

You'd probably have a bit of luck in Isla de Coiba, too..  Or Komodo :o

In Topic: E-M5 set up!

How much closer are we talking, really?

On the E-M5 thread it actually looked like the 4.33" was sharper (In I think Doctor Mustard's duck phots?) than the 3.5"?

And when you say works fine - it works well? No difference in image quality between the 12-50mm port? And I thought the 12-50 port came with a 77mm-67mm ring?
