RX100 - Esperance/Swan River Western Australia 2013

30 April 2013 - 08:35 PM

Here are some photos from the last months with the Sony RX100 in Nauticam housing, which are both great!

Lenses used: FIX UWL-04 wide angle and double UCL-165 macro.

2x INON S2000 strobes.

First ones are in Esperance, Western Australia. I rented gear to find my first Leafy Seadragon and was lucky in 'Lucky Bay'.

Other ones are taken in the river/estuary in Perth, Western Australia; the Swan river.

Cheers, Xander

Swan River, Western Australia (RX100)

13 February 2013 - 04:42 PM

Hi everyone

I thought I would make a topic about the river system/estuary here in Perth.
The visibility is very bad, with a lot of particles in the water, and a lot of people here call it 'dirty'.

Still I think you can find a lot of beauty here, especially in the shallows with low sun.
The watercolour changes throughout the year, from yellow brown to fluorescent green, and in high summer it almost looks like the famous jellyfish lake in Palau because of the huge jellyfish populations.
I have encountered dolphins, prickly leatherjackets and seahorses are not rare! Sometimes you can see 10/20 a time if you look for them.

Here is a selection of photos from the last 2 years, Cheers!
Xander

A month long Indonesia! (with Sony RX100)

21 December 2012 - 10:00 PM

Hi everyone,

I just had the pleasure of spending a two weeks in Bali, and two weeks in Sumatra.
Sumatra was mostly to see the jungle, but I also did some diving in Pulau Weh (or Sabang, )on the northern tip of Sumatra.

Sony RX100 was used with Nauticam housing, 2x INON S2000, INON macro wet lenses and FIX UWL-04 wide angle lens.

Here is a selection, you can see more at www.flickr.com/xanderwater

Cheers, Xander

RX-100 photos from today

12 October 2012 - 05:07 AM

Hi everyone,

I bought a Sony RX-100 and Nauticam housing a few days ago, as a replacement for my Canon S95 in Ikelite housing.

Here are some shots of a dive(freedive) in the estuary in Perth Western Australia today.
I used a FIX UWL-04 fisheye lens, which had a tiny bit of vignetting, and 2x INON UCL-165M67 for the sea horse, which seemed to have soft corners but was ok in the center.

Photos are Jpg's from the camera, with only minor 'levels' adjustments in Photoshop. I still have to sort out a Raw converter.
I am very impressed with the crazy amount of detail, see the 100% crops.
Flash recharge took noticeably longer than my S95.

Cheers, Xander

BBC: First footage of rare anglerfish

29 August 2012 - 01:50 AM

"A rare species of anglerfish has been filmed for the first time by US scientists.
The deep-dwelling fish was first described in 1899 from a dead specimen but has not previously been seen alive.
Using a remote-operated vehicle, biologists observed the fish "walking" with its fins and using its namesake lure.
Scientists suggest the footage also shows that the fish change colour as they age."

More, and the little movie can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/19369882
