In Topic: DSLR housing tether

03 September 2011 - 04:48 PM

I have a standard medium size boltsnap (1" eye for finger) tied to the bottom right hand grip on my Aquatica using 5mm prussik cord. once tighted correctly and the sail water hits it a few times, the knots becomes bombproof.

To go hands free for a short period I'll typically chest clip the rig off, but for longer hauls (e.g. scootering or laying line) I'll wrap it up and clip to my right hip or wing d-ring. I don't like the idea of a long tether because it is an entrapment concern, though I'll admit this is mostly a tec thing.

I'd also recommend against using keyring (aka splitrings) as they tend to catastrophically failed under load and it doesn't take much for that to happen. Might not be a problem in the water, but I could imagine a tossing boat and handling issues becoming a problem.

I like the Cetacea lanyards. I use those even on my dive lights, in addition to the camera.

Thanks to every one for your advice and comments. I am now looking at the Nauticam as a possibility and hopefully Dr Tattersall will be able to organise me a great deal :)

Cheers

HI Camilla,

What did you hear about the Sea & Sea D7000? Just curious what info you saw on it....

In Topic: Lights for video?

You can never have enough light (though you can have it in the wrong place [e.g., all close to the lens]). I recommend at least a two-point source 21w bulbs or greater each.

Some Sola Video 1200 lights would do the trick.

A lot of our customers have been happy with a Dyron macro lens, which you can use w/ your camera with the Olympus adapter.

I am really disappointed in him...

maybe he had a change of heart sometime between the fishing trip and the shooting of the video. after all, it says the trip happened a year before he'd began thinking about making the documentary.
