24 April 2013 - 04:20 PM

People looking to support conservation issues, could do worse then dive travel to countries which implement and enforce laws to protect- consumer statistics tend rule the actions of business.

Flasher for anchoring up point- Boats

19 April 2013 - 06:21 PM

I am set up one of these -sundance teaser http://www.boonebait...x&cPath=507_511 - to hang under the boat at 5M. It is set off the bouy on the jesus christ line off the rear quarter bollard/railing- thus increase the overall area of "boat awareness", very handy on new sites for coming immediately back to the boat position, without using expensive sonic transmitters/receivers.

It will aid in finding the boat position as the light carries well at that hieght in the water column in good viz , without having to look up so much, do safety stops and also provide a snap position to fasten camera for easier retrieval. Having a bungee cord attached to the flasher to be a shock absorber for any wave motion for the camera snap clip.

Also it will attact pelagic fish as a bonus.

Hope some find this idea useful.

Chinese using Manta gills for water filteration

18 January 2013 - 08:50 PM

I got told by an insider, some chinese are using manta gills to filter the dirty drinking water- hence the reason they are "going after mantas" like it's a gold rush, also because manta eat lots of fish food and stop fish species from have the feed they need to be able to harvest more fish to eat.

What do you think of this, is it real or BS????

This really has rattled my cage, I am freeking out about it to be honest.

Please help me get to the bottom of this "rumour".

This is all I could find about the use of the gill rakers- http://www.examiner....ers-giant-rays/
Got the Snake oil merchants taking advantage of the uneducated chinese people.

Happy new Aeon to my diver friends,
Damon ps- I am not a Sinophobic person, I have many chinese friends- I can play Mahjong Posted Image

Tokina AT-X 16-28 F2.8 PRO FX Lens

05 November 2012 - 08:04 PM

I am interested in any feedback on this lens UW-
I have spare coin for a lens (port choice also for the aquatica housing would be a bonus). I run a d7000nik

I am not a FE lover, I want something to take action shots of pelagic's feeding(Spanish mackerel and hammerhead sharks as a target); so it has to be fast and wide but not super wide,as i want to see some sharp detail in the shot.

Your opinions are valuable to me, please don't hesitate to suggest an alternative..........

cheers,
Damon
