Back in 2011 there was an amazing Red Tide in San Diego with these amazing blue waves.

In 2011 there was an unusual spectacular plankton bloom in San Diego, also called a Red Tide (as it looks red during the day)

At night these algae give off a blue light, bioluminescence, when they are disturbed, creating this real world Avatar-like footsteps.
