New Canon 100mm Macro

31 August 2009 - 07:38 PM

Great news, At the same time as the new 7D Canon have also announced a new Macro Lens  .

100 f/2.8L IS USM Macro Translation

1) Dual Image stabilisation, tilt and shift
2) UD glass for less diffraction
3) 9-piece round shape aperture
4) Internal Focus, ring USM and optimized algorithm achieving fast and quiet focus
5) full time manual focus
weight: 625 gram
filter size: 67 mm
size: 77.7 x 123 mm

The Tilt and Shift I.S. is a new system which is suppossed to be optimised for Macro. Tilt accounts for lens droop or rotation of the camera and shift allows for body and lens moving in parallel such as in surge.

The size isn't to bad at 3.05 x 4.84 inches so should fit ports okay.

This is also the first Macro L lens Canon have done, but the down side of that will be the price !

No news that I could see on the Ratio yet, hopefully at least 1:1 or even more would be nice.

I've been pondering a while on next piece of glass, looks like this might do nicely for Christmas.

Credit and thanks for the news goes to Canon Rumours.

David Hobby aka Strobist

For those who know of Strobist (mutiple flash photography on dyr land) I was lucky enough to attend a small two day course with the founder David Hobby. (I know your a fan Cor so this posts for you.)

The "assignement" for the course was to shoot a local hotel here in Dubai and whilst it wasn't an underwater course I still managed to get wet.

Here are a couple of teasers :-

And more here :

My first "pool shoot" and while not the level of creativity of some of the recent pool shoots on wetpixel recently (had no models) however it was a very fun and demanding course.

Also got the chance to shoot with Joe McNally another world class photog but not near the water.
