In Topic: Nauticam Carbon Fibre Float arms

The carbon fibre floats may be porus allowing water to seep in at depth.

Even a minute pore could allow a drop per minute.

In industrial applications a 'quick & dirty' solution is called 'impregnation'. (google "casting impregantion ...".

If the leak is very small, spraying the outside of the float with clear coat could stop the leak, providing it is not a mechanical one in the closure joints.

Additionally, if it is porosity then: they may be more that one, and it is a basic manufacturing defect. If the later, then Nauticam seems to be a reputable company and they should resolve the problem.

No I have not used one before.

I found out about them from a presentation at our U/W photo club.  The presenter has used them.

Back ground info: I ran a large gear manufacturing company for three years and do have some insight into gearing.

Think about how much pressure you would have to exert to deform a plastic gear tooth and think about how much force is requires to turn a lens ring.

If interested, pm me and I'll put you in touch with the guy who presented at our club.

Easy way:

Shim up the id to get gear tooth engagement.

don't sweat the pitch or tooth profile; very low rotational resistance.
