In Topic: Sony FX1 viewfinder melting??!!
23 October 2006 - 09:47 AM
FYI, we melted a viewfinder in the foggy old Monterey. It doesn't take a lot of sun if the viewfinder is parallel to the sun's rays.
Fortunately, this only seems to be a problem with angled viewfinders. At least I've never heard of the problem with Mako or BlueFin 900/HC1/HC3 housings.
FX1 owners: replace that viewfinder cap if you leave a BlueFin on the deck.

In Topic: Depth Rating for Top Dawg II and Stingray III
14 September 2006 - 04:22 PM
Sorry, I should have addressed this "deep" question "in depth" earlier, but I've been on the road.
Top Dawgs and StingRay Sports are rated to 150 fsw and individually tested to 100 psi or 230 fsw. Please note that housing ratings are generally not based on the o-ring seals, but based on implosion and related safety concerns. Diving deeper than the published rating could result in a housing imploding which would create a vacuum which could be filled by bits and pieces and parts (like masks, regulators, fillings, eye balls, etc.) of the diver who chose to push the limits.

None of the reserves prohibit scientific collecting with a permit or diving. They are considering renaming Hopkins Reserve as Lovers Point Reserve since there is now a reserve from Hopkins all the way down to Lovers. -Barrett
