Good Advanced Amateur/Prosumer/Semi-Pro Setup

15 January 2007 - 05:41 AM

Hi,

my girlfriend is finally bored to just be my spotter and wants to start UW-Video.

Now we are looking for a nice setup.

It don't hav to be absolute "hi end" but we want something that we don't get buyers remorse after a couple of dives because an important feature is missing.

The problem is, I know a lot about UW-Photography but have no idea what are important features for UW-Videography.

If I would be looking for a Photo Camera I would ask for "RAW-Capable, Fully Controlable Manualy, decent and fair priced Housing" and recommend myself a Canon G or S (before 70) Series or a Olympus x0x0 Series Camera.

But What are the key features for Video? And what are recommendable Setups?

Do we need lights from beginning or are filter (real or post-production) enough for the first couple of trips?

Anything else we should know as newbies?

Thanks in advance
Simon!

Good Dive Operators South Florida

18 August 2006 - 01:08 PM

Hi we will go tomorrow for a ten days of vacation to Southern Florida.

Diving is not our main target (I think the first time on a trip since 5 years ;-) ) but we still want to get our heads underwater a couple of times.

We will be on the Keys for 3 days first and will then be in Deerfield Beach after that.

Can you recommend any dive operators there?

What we want:

1) No "Cattleboats"
2) Not to short Dive duration limits (at least 45', 12l Tanks)
3) Preferable halfday trips (especially on the Keys)
4) Decent Rental Equipment 'cause we wont take our equipment with us this time.

I'm pretty curious how I handle a S50 without external flash after 3 Years DSLR shooting. As I said the Big stuff stays at home.

Thank you in advance!
Simon

Is Conversion to Adobe DNG lossless

21 February 2006 - 10:23 AM

I'm thinking about converting my RAW file archive to DNG because I think the chances that DNG is supported in 20 years is higher than some properitary Raw File Format.

Are there any disadvantages and do I lose an kind of Information when converting?

Thanks
Simon
