Recommendations on Complete Rig Sale

07 February 2008 - 01:21 PM

I want to sell my complete rig (except for the camera, unless the buyer wants that too). Adding a list and what I paid. What kind of percentage of the amount would those of you with more expereience recommend to ask based on what was paid/market conditions, etc.? And is there a separate forum to list for sale rigs?

Wet Macro Lens?

30 October 2007 - 12:27 PM

I have an Ikelite housing for my Sony SR1. I find it works pretty well for me with their W/A lens. It is zoom-thru and I can get a focused shot with full zoom at a minimum of about 18". Maybe that's sort of "half macro" or something like that? The W-20 Ikelite W/A lens is a wet lens so you can install or take it off any time during a dive. The port on the housing is a flat port.

Does anyone know of a wet macro lens? Do they make such a thing? If so could it be adapted to fit in the port threads I have? Maybe a dumb question, but I'd like to be able to do something like that if it's a possibility.

Software that Edits AVCHD and Burns to HD

10 July 2007 - 08:32 AM

I've had some interesting (?) fun trying to find software for the AVCHD from my Sony camera. I tried Sony's MS Platinum, but it won't burn any kind of HD disk and to do HD it appears to require the MainConcept, which won't work on VISTA. Apparently, neither will the full DVD+ product burn an HD disk. So I gave up on Sony.

I tried upgrading my Pinnacle to Stuido 11+, but so far it seems to start dragging badly once you get to about 8-10 mins. on the timeline. And I have yet to get it to burn a successful HD DVD disk. Their support still hasn't replied with anything that makes a difference (my new hardware meets or exceeds their minimum specs for HD/AVCHD).

So now I'm trying Ulead. It appears to be working fairly well using the Proxy editing mode. But I don't know what kind of output to set for an HD DVD burn. I went to the "SAVE" menu but didn't know from there what settings to use. (I tried the "?" button but it says "Can't find help file.") I tried a rendering and what I did ended up creating a picture-in-picture rendering with double audio. Then I tried a direct burn operation, but it came out SD instead of HD.

Can someone offer input on what settings to use to directly burn to HD-DVD disk?

Cruise Trip Diving

26 April 2007 - 01:39 PM

Suckered into trying another cruise since we have some friends that would like to do that and my wife liked the first one we did (I hated it and got sick from something they fed me, to boot). It isn't my type of thing but I guess I can survive it.

Has anyone done much of this?

Last time we just contacted local dive operators at the ports involved rather than the ship's "excursion" and I am planning on doing the same thing.

Any advice? Should I even bother to take along the video gear for this kind of thing? The islands are Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, Dominica, Aruba, Curacao.
