Also be aware that there is nothing particularly unique about the apple monitors other that the sexy case that they enclose the panel in. I'm a big mac fan but on peripherals, they really tend to soak you so unless you already have two cinema displays, I'd recommend that you look around before you decide to splurge.
From the research I did, I discovered not all flat panel technologies are created equally and if color accuracy is important to you, S-IPS based flat panels are what you're looking for (All the cinema displays are S-IPS displays from LG). Dell, NEC, LG and Phillips (among others) all make panels based on this technology and you'll probably find them significantly cheaper than the apple.

Also note that even among S-IPS panels there seems to be differences in the size of the gamut that they're capable of displaying, so you might want to consider that as well while you shopping. Hope this saves you a few bucks!
