Hey All.
I really need some help.. Please if anyone has a few mins to spare could you please help me understand finalising in Vegas.

I purchased Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8d the other day and fired it up for the first time yesterday. Noting that this is the first time I've ever used any editing software.
I went through the tutes and got the general jist of it. So here I am, finished a project and have rendered it in HDV to my drive. not to difficult.. Plays nicely in WMP nice and sharply. Looks good.
I was looking at posting it on Wag's movie site but am at a loss as to how to render the movie from the timeline to a file size able to upload onto the site. Under 50Mb.I tried dropping the width and height down to the site specs of 480/270. Which is fine. and leaving the pixel aspect at 1.0. But when I click on the "Make Movie" tab at the top and then select store to hard drive, the following choices are over my head.
I've read all afternoon on related posts but still can't seem to get it right.
I have a finished HDV file size of 179Mb saved as a WMV file but obviously to big for the web.

Could someone please help me with the following options as I have tried and all I seem to get is a crap result all pixely and blury vid trying to keep under 50Mb.

There are 6 format options to choose from:
Mpeg-1 (mpeg)
Mpeg-2 (mpeg)
Quicktime 7 (mov)
Real Media 9 (rm)
Video for Windows (avi)
Windows Media Video V9 (wmv)

The next issue is the "Template"

Obviously if you are able to help me you have Vegas and know that each format option above has its own set of options for the template so I won't list each one as there are heaps, But when It comes to "Kbps Video" and "Mbps HD 720-24p Video" What is this refering to and how does it change the file size or playback eg. quality? I'm guessing these are prob dumb questions but as a newbie I just cant figure it out. I just don't understand the language yet....

Any advise would be more than appriciated.

Hi Probie.
If you go and download Super@ a free encoder you can make a 480/270 (600kbps) flv-FLASH file with it to load up onto my little undersea site.
It should be able to take any of those file types you can make. Spend some time playing around with Super@ as it can do lots.
Finding the download link on their site is abit of fun too...http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

1mbps is 1 mega byte per second or 1 million bytes per second

600kbps = 600bytes x 1000(kilo).
So 600kbps is .6mbps or .6 of a meg.

As for Vegas, I don't really know my way around it but the best is to just tinker and learn.

Here is screen grab for Super@
Perroneford
And/or join Vimeo.com which gives all members 500MB per week to upload. So you could take your current 179MB file and upload it just as it is.

Thanks Wagsy

I've just downloaded the program and have outputed a file into flv and am in the process of uploading to your site. Will have a quick look when it gets there and decide if to leave it there or remove and try again.
Would I get a better quality vid on your site If I was to use a large 1080 HD wmv file then reduce it in Super? or would I get just as good a finish if I had already sized it in Vegas before rendering there then converted to flv

Damn just finished the upload to the site and used the wrong file....... no sound.. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR lol '

Try again...

I see you sorted it out in the end congrats. smile.gif
Nice cuttle fish there.

Yes there are other sites you can load your clips too but I keep ours to 600kbps so they play in realtime for most users.
Lots of people still have slow connections.
The encoder on the server does not re encode flv clips hence why it's best to encode them yourself for best quality and load them up.
HD WMV files generally look abit soft, make say a 1440/1080 m2t or mpeg file and run that through super as that may give you better flv clips.

Anyhow just mess around with Super@ as it can encode to many other compression formats.

Cheers

I just looked at the clip on your site... and...
Well I have to say in my defence for the filming quality... IM NEW TO IT ALL... fool.gif So much camera shake and movement.. I have a lot to learn and practice but you have to start somewhere...
Thx for the help with the encoding.... I really had no idea..

I'll keep experimenting with the formats.

Hi Probie, enjoyed your video. I didn't much notice the surge, for example you stayed on that baby cuttlefish no problem. I guess it helps when you are both caught in the same. And great bullhead shark!

Video played perfectly for me, no lag.... thanks for the post!

Mike

PS: Thanks wagsy for the tip on Super@!

Cheers Mike

There was a far bit of surge throughout parts but not so much in other parts with depth. Yeah the shark gave my lens a bit of a kiss in that shot up close... I think it was a bit unsure of us. or just camera shy lol.
Im still waiting to get the mounts and arms for my 2 darkbusters which have been sitting in their cases in my room for a month now. then will have some decent lighting dowm there.. and free up a hand to hold the housing properly... But the torch light was fun and gave the vid a different feel.
