I am both excited and concerned as a Sea & Sea user.

I have the ports, cables, converters, etc...... I wonder if polycarbonate housings in the future will change the quality of future housings from this company. Having said that, I am really excited about fibre opti TTL and also lighter weight....

Thanks Yoko for the S&S news!!!

You're welcome! Did you like it?
According to a Sea&Sea catalog for 2009 that I get at DEMA show,
Sea&Sea add in new ports for "RDX"housing system their line-up.

Yoko,

These look like housings for the Nikon D60 and Canon 450D so I guess they are bottom of the SLR range.

They are quite different to the machined aluminium of the housings such as the one for the Nikon D300. I wonder if polycarbonate is the future?

I still can't quite work out the new RDX port system - does it mean existing ports do not fit on these housings?

I like the idea of fibre optic strobe firing but can you tell be if the standard Nikonos bulkhead is still present on these housings? Your attached photos did not quite show this detail.

I wonder what the deal is with the new standard ports. From what I can tell in the picture, it can certainly accept the current optical dome port from S&S. It seems slightly wider too...

I agree. These will probably be for the lower end DSLRs in the beginning. However, I am still excited at the possibility of a compact (Unlike Ikelite) and light poly housing with optical connections. THe lower cost would also help when planning to upgrade too!

Hi,

Sea&Sea Japan has also announced the new MDX housing for Nikon D700.
http://members.seaandsea.co.jp/column/214.html
http://www.seaandsea.co.jp/press/1225765887.html
There is a choice between ergonomics grip and new grip-stay-L.
MDX housing for Nikon D700 is scheduled to be available in Feb 2009.

Therefore I speculate Sea&Sea offer both MDX and RDX.
I attached some pictures and system chart for RDX Housing(forCanon).

Hi Dominique,

I don't have any infomation about a housing for Nikon D90.
There is no information about a housing for Nikon D90 on Sea&Sea catalog of DSLR housings for 2009.

Keep you posted, Dominique

BTW, Sea&Sea is developing a housing for Canon 5DMK2.

Yoko,

Thanks for posting the port chart.

From what I can work out current NX dome ports and I presume an NX flat port can be used on new RDX housings by using either a RDX Port base S or a RDX port base L.

I think I've got that right?

I'm still a bit confused though as why this new lens mount is being introduced. Any ideas?

You can use NX flat port on new RDX housing.
I attached system chart for RDX Housing(for Nikon) as bellow.

Yoko, who is he, and are you affiliated with his company? I'd hate for these product announcements to somehow end up leading to a sales pitch. Of course, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt - just curious since I don't know any of the Japanese or HK shops.

Cheers

I think the port was made smaller on the RDX series to keep the housing smaller. They will have a line of RDX ports, but not as many as NX.

Fiber optic sync with two ports. Much lighter in/out of the water, polycarbonate construction. 200' depth rating. TTL capable with adapter. .5x pick up viewfinder to see whole view. larger buckles. New shutter lever that operates from two directions.

No announcement on D90, not sure that it would be RDX or MDX series.

Tom,

The information about the new YS TTL converter is in the manual that you have provided the link for.
It appears to be a very nice upgrade on the current Mk III converters, with a lot more control over the strobes...

Bruce...

BTW, B&H Photo already have them listed and for the same price as the Mk III's...

Hi Yoko

Many many thanks to remember from my question .It was very kind to you to think of me .
Anyway my D90 is now working in the DX80 housing very well , there is really little changes between the two cameras and my dear husband did machine the button on the right behind of the housing , so that I can use the D90 underwater already. 2000€ save !!! And next month I will go to Soccoro and hope to bring some pretty pictures from the mantas , and why not some vidéos !!! biggrin.gif

Wow, the new line up looks very slick and mean.

I plan a trip to Soccoro with my friend at the end of the next year.
I hope you take nice pictures at Soccoro.

Have a good diving!
