JVC announces affordable 4K cameras
JVC has announced three handheld 4K cameras. All three feature dual SDHC/SDXC card slots, 3.5-inch LCD displays and 1.56 megapixel color viewfinders, both with smart focus assist functions, and offer two-channel audio recording. The GY-LS300 has a super 35mm sensor with a MFT lens mount, the GY-HMI70 a fixed zoom lens, and the GY-HM200 can stream video via Ustream or other destinations.
Sony poised to revolutionise image sensors
It looks as if Sony is poised to revolutionise sensor technology. PetaPixel has posted an article about a new patent made by the company that appears to show a whole new technique of recording color information at pixel level. “Active-Pixel Color Sampling” (APACS) uses a pixel level moving electronic color filter to sense RGB information, rather than the conventional interpolation process. Maryland family uncovers 15 million year old shark skeleton in backyard
A family in the Calvert Cliffs area of Mayland had the find of a lifetime when they began excavating their backyard for a new sunroom. What began with a couple of intact vertebrae about a foot and a half into the ground turned into one of the most complete fossils of a 15-million year old snaggletooth shark.

CMS agrees on protection of 21 species of shark, ray and sawfish
The eleventh meeting of the “Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species” (CMS) was held last week in Quito, Ecuador. The CMS is an international treaty administered under the United Nations Environment Program and over 100 countries agreed to extend protection to 31 species, which included 21 species of sharks, rays and sawfish. In addition, discussions were held about on plastic debris, boat-based wildlife watching and the live-capture of cetaceans for entertainment.
Shooting a dome projected video - including giant spider crab migration
In a behind the scenes video, Dr. Julian Finn goes underwater in Port Phillip Bay to film footage for the Deep Oceans exhibition at Scienceworks in Melbourne, Australia. The film will be projected inside a vertical dome, with the intent for museum goers to stand within the dome and have a virtual dive in the waters in their own backyard.
