I've just returned from the Wetpixel Isla Mujeres Whale Shark Expedition 2011, which was incredible, as expected. We had 12 participants this year, including a 5-year old boy named Kieran Liu, whose first moments in the ocean involved swimming madly after a large, feeding whale shark.
Each July/August, over 400 whale sharks aggregate off of Isla Mujeres to feed on tunny (bonito tuna) eggs. It is the largest aggregation of the largest fish in the ocean!
