The dome mounted on the Ikelite housing

We have received some information from Aquatica about their 8” dome port for Ikelite housings.  The port uses the standard 8” Aquatica acrylic dome, with an aluminum back plate and integral ikelite port adapter (meaning it’s all one piece).  Aquatica has dunk tested the port and confirms that it works well with the Nikon D70 housing and 10.5mm fisheye lens.  According to Blake Stoughton, a principal at Aquatica, they intend to release a series of extension rings so that this port can be used with a variety of Canon and Nikon lenses.  The cost should be competitive with other offerings.

  1. I’m confused...I’ve got the 8” Aquatica dome that came from Ikelite..I’ve got 2 different length extensions that came from Ikelite...do I get the 10.5 extension from Aquatica or Ikelite?

  2. Hi Karl,

Yes, it’s confusing with two manufacturers both supplying versions of the same product with a mix and match of different components.

The Aquatica dome for Ikelite housings looks like their standard bayonet mount port - meaning it has a very short extension with the mount that goes on the housing.  I’m guessing that if you want to use it w/ lenses besides the 10.5 or 15mm, you’ll want to get an extension ring from Aquatica.

With the Ikelite, the extension rings are already available and they screw onto the big “doughnut” that comes mounted on the dome.  You can’t mix the Ikelite extension rings with the Aquatica port featured in this news item.

If that’s still confusing, let me know.

  3. James, will I be able to order the 10.5 mount from Aquatica and use it on the 8” dome I got from Ikelite?

  4. Hi Karl,

No.  You will need to get a soon-to-be released adapter from Ikelite.

    Cheers

  5. Update
The 8” domes supplied by Ikelite are from a batch of 8” screw on ports that Aquatica used to produce years ago.
Ikelite got ahold of these and created theirmounts on them…

Aquaticas current domes are bayonet mounts.
The 8” port (ONE PIECE) with the ikelite fitting on it does not require any adaptors when using the 10.5
Othere adaptors for the Aquatica Domes are under consideration.

  6. James,
Any idea if this or any other dome port lenses will be/are available for the ikelite video housings?  All that ikelite shows as available is the inon lense.
