Exciting news!  Accessory viewfinders are being more and more popular!  Aquatica was proudly displaying a pro-production model of their new AquaView viewfinder, which featured a large, bright, clear picture.  Also on display was the A30D housing for Canon’s EOS 30D digital SLR.  I am impressed that the A30D’s ergonomic improvements over Aquatica’s earlier housings for Canon SLRs.

AquaView Viewfinder notes:

- design doesn’t block the camera’s LCD
- very easy to install and remove, even in the field
- uses retaining o-ring to hold the finder in
- works with all current housings: D200, 5D, D2X
- good placement for splits. Mauricio Handler says eyes and nose are above water.
- available 2nd week of December
- cost: USD $1149

Aquatica A30D underwater housing for Canon EOS 30D digital SLR:

- newest housing
- has redesigned ergonomics, placing both dials under fingertips!
- interchangeable saddle
- rock solid camera mounting. i couldn’t move the camera.

The A30D’s ergonomics are a vast improvement over earlier models!  Kudos to Aquatica for listening to her users.

Also, rumors circulate of a pending announcement of a 9.5” glass “UltraDome”.

  1. Oh wow, that pulley system is so cool! A very clever way of solving the control relocation problem.

  2. I just finished using the Aqua View while working on a book in Grand Cayman. Big and bright just like an RS and the 13mm lens. Used it for 10.5 WA work, splits and 105mm Macro. You can really get exact focus with macro subjectsHighly recommended accessory!
