Long promised, Light & Motion is showing their new Titan underwater housing for the Nikon D200, which looks like a real winner.
A departure from the previous D100 model, all of the Titan D200’s controls are located on the housing body itself. Even though the signature electronic handles are no longer present, all of the controls are still readily accessible while gripping the new handles with both hands…
CEO Barrett Heywood and Paul Barnett took me and Larry Tackett on a tour of the Titan D200’s features, which include:
- hybrid mechanical and electronic control
- camera body mounting tray. camera control via USB and 2 sync cords
- expansion bulkhead for TTL support
- sealed electronics for water resistance during flood
- both shutter and wheel are electronic with great haptic feedback
- adjustable handles
- LCD control display on back (exposure, mode, ROC, etc.)
- integrated game of pong. don’t let the D200 win!
- accessory 1:1 viewfinder

I’ll admit it: I totally want one. It’s too bad I’m a Canon user!

Comment(s):I agree that the Titan is a very inventive housing for for the D200. I played with it for quite some time on Wed., before the crowds arrived and was most impressed that the designers enthusiastically wanted my feedback, good and not so good. I can tell Light and Motion is a really cool company!! And the housing is truly amazing!!
Be careful if you get too obsessed with PONG though..., as we were saying - yes, play it on a long safety stop and with the limited battery life of the D200 - well, just be sure to say to yourself “sucker”, when, upon surfacing you watch the whale shark slowly swimming by and of course no battery life left...... (but at least you beat the camera at PONG!)
Yes, very neat housing. I can’t wait to hear of it getting baptized (it hasn’t been wet yet - who will be the first down with it?...)
