Disneynature has announced a date of October 19 2010 for the release of their film Oceans as a DVD, Blu-ray and download. The feature film was released to cinemas on Earth Day, April 22 2010, and was a box office success, grossing $2,466,530 in its first days showing. The film, shot at over 50 different sites, took four years and $66,000,000 to make and is narrated by actor Pierce Brosnan.

"Oceans’ allows the audience to be a part of marine life—to share all the emotions engendered by the exploration of the last great wild expanse: wonder, fear, calm, tenderness, violence, vitality, power. We took the time to allow the animals to invite us in. We waited to become a fish among fish.”

Jacques Cluzaud, Director.

“The secrets of the ocean have always fascinated explorers. Man first ventured into the sea gradually, unaware of its infinite richness and diversity. Over the centuries, there have been so many discoveries, but the sea is still an immense and wild territory.”

Jacques Perrin, Director.

  2. I am sure it is excellent but how did it cost $66 million. Is that not a bit extreme?

  5. From Wikipedia

“The film was not a box office success as it closed on July 15, 2010 after 85 days of release, earning $19,422,319 domestically. However, the film earned $56,689,120 overseas for a total of $76,111,439 worldwide, making it financially successful.”

  6. I saw Oceans on day 2 after it’s release. I was at a popular suburban theater in the SF bay area yet my wife and I were two of only seven viewers in the room at the begining of the movie. Several people (a family of three) left before the movie was over. Howard Hall films draw a larger audience at IMAX theaters.
There were some fantastic scenes but the lack of continuity made it little long for one continuous viewing. It should do well on DVD/BluRay.

  7. Documentaries tend to do well outside the US market. I really wanted to see this on the big screen - but it seems I have missed it. :(
