At every DEMA show, speakers are invited to deliver talks about aspects of underwater imaging at a stage within the Imaging Resource Center. Wetpixel Associate Editor, Alex Mustard delivered a talk entitled "Domes without the Drone" at the most recent show and we were on hand to film it. The talk is less about dome port theory, and more on the practical pros and cons of various types of domes available, together with situations in which one type may be preferable over another.

Comment(s):Thanks Adam! I have not watched it back (yet) but I remember being late starting and feeling the pressure to get this finished on time (morning after the WP/DPG drinks). So hope it is OK as a vid. Alex
Posted by Alex Mustard on 11/15 at 08:08 AMI should add that I was asked to talk on the subject of mini-domes. I didn’t choose this subject! My challenge was to make the talk interesting and accessible and well as help people understand this popular accessory!
Posted by Alex Mustard on 11/15 at 08:45 AMcomposistion is a little annoying… lol
Posted by DeanB on 11/15 at 09:44 AMThank you for sharing this!
Posted by Cornforth Images on 11/15 at 10:40 AMSpectacular talk, Alex!!! I was there, but stupidly missed this seminar. This is a great resource to point people to - like any dealer, I do everything possible to explain port choices to customers/students, but this will allow folks to digest the info at their own pace, and I will point more people to this talk. 3-minute chats are nice, but it really takes 40 minutes to cover this subject well.
Posted by ChristopherGug on 11/15 at 12:31 PMI enjoyed this very much, most informative. Thank You..
Posted by Aquapaul on 11/15 at 07:42 PMTremendous talk, thanks Alex. All makes more sense to me now!
Posted by dr harry on 11/16 at 04:00 AMThanks Adam for your efforts and to Alex for a very informative talk (nothing wrong with equations though!)
Posted by Cussy on 11/16 at 04:25 AMGreat overview of lots of options and pros and cons of each. And thanks for keeping it from the technical and sticking to the practical. The switching between the screenshots and Alex was good. Obviously a few small bits where he was pointing at something and you didn’t know what it was but a great help anyway. I’d give it an A-. :-)

Excellent job of integrating photos into the discussion. Very informative, but I’ll stick with my 8” dome and my Tokina 10-17-for now at least.
Thank you for sharing and thanks to WP for the video.

BobPosted by Deep6 on 11/16 at 07:06 PMGreat talk, answers 99% of the dome questions I’ve ever had. It emphasizes the importance of utilizing the different domes as tools to accomplish what’s already in your shooting plan.
Alex again proves he is an amazing/inspiring photographer and speaker.Thank you,
JaapPosted by jaypee on 11/17 at 08:43 AMHey Alex - Very nicely presented. It speaks to your depth of knowledge to be extemporaneous on such a topic.
