Comment(s):It’s an interesting video but I’d like to understand the “rolling” image effect that is visible in some of the outside shots. It is as if a large painting was rolled/pulled in front of a fixed camera… I am not sure this is a lens curvature effect or due to the different shooting principle used by DSLRs (compared to camcorders)?
Posted by uwxplorer on 05/07 at 06:27 AMI believe there is one segment that uses a slider, or at least mimics the effect of a slider, otherwise looks like pans to me. This vid was on vimeo 7 months ago…
Nice music!
Posted by mshohman on 05/07 at 06:08 PMMaybe we can get Rusty to give us some more info on how he shot the topside segments?
This video is the most recent episode of what is *currently* the #1 Sports & Recreation Video Podcast at iTunes (U.S.).
Because of all the filmmakers who have contributed their great short films and the viewers who have supported us over the years, we are able to reach an extremely wide audience with videos celebrating the value, beauty, and diversity of the underwater world. Thank you all!!

Posted by Mary Lynn Price on 05/08 at 07:41 AMThank you for the comments. I used a Glidetrack HD slider for some of the topside shots. The pans were done with a Manfrotto 501 HDV head, The Pans need to be slow with 5D MKII, I was Panning too fast and hence the rolling image.
I plan on going back to Ginnie Springs this year to shoot another short film and will not be using any Pan shots, I have a couple of new toys to try out with the 5D MKII!Posted by rusty on 05/08 at 08:39 AMI think the panning effect gives the footage a cool, sort of surreal look. Can’t wait to see your next vid from Ginnie Springs, Rusty!
