  1. Interesting article. 

    You can often obtain similar results more simply by using the options in the levels menu.  There are six options, depending upon whether or not you click on “snap neutral midtones.” The three basic choices are Find Light & Dark Colors, Enhance per Channel Contrast,and Enhance Monochromatic Contrast.  Don’t worry what they mean, just experiment.  At the very least it will boost contrast and give your images more snap.  At best it can bring out hidden colors.  Some fine tuning may be necessary by tweaking gamma, or by going into the red channel and backing off if there is too much red cast.
