VISIONS IN THE SEA INTERNATIONAL UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
Report by Tim Moran.

This print competition had the following classes; Open; Amateur DSLR; Amateur Compact Camera. The categories for each class were Macro; Wide angle and Best Elasmobranch (that’s Sharks, rays and skates)! The Suunto British Open took entries from all photographers who have taken quality photos in British waters.

Being an international competition, few of the finalists and winners were able to be present at Visions but I was able to gather four together for a group photo; Paul Smith took Amateur Compact macro with a lovely anemone fish study, Kay Newman took Amateur DSLR Macro and James Lea’s mum is holding his Amateur Compact Wide Angle win. My son, Christopher Moran, took the Visions in the Sea Young Underwater Photographer of the Year title with his black and white Longimanus shot at Elphinstone in August.

The Shark Trust will use the winning Best Elasmobranch shots in their continuing battle to save this iconic group of animals.

VISIONS CHARITY DINNER

The Gala Dinner was held at The Palace Hotel with tables identified by the world’s sharks. The after dinner auction of photographs was ably administered by Duxy and raised more that £1,600 for the Shark Trust with Alex Mustard’s beautiful sea dragon portrait raising £370 alone. A huge round of applause went to this generous bidder.
