Fire in the Water by Jeff Hartog.

The results of the Our World Underwater competition were announced live on stage at the Our World Underwater Show in Chicago over the weekend. The judges have had a very difficult task choosing the finalists from the over 1500 entries. Hearty congratulations to Jeff Hartog (Wetpixel member Loftus) on winning Best of Show with his stunning image Fire in the Water, and congratulations to all the other winners as well.

Wide-angle traditional winner Stingray at Sunset by Claudio Gazzaroli.

Supermacro traditional winner Brown Trout Embryo by Anders Salesjö.

Macro unrestricted winner Unwelcome Mouthguest by Ross Gudgeon.

Wide-angle unrestricted winner Lady of the Deep by Jacques de Vos.

Compact camera category winner Spacecraft turn right by Chia Chi Chang.

Novice category winner Goby in Cave by Diego Forero.

Macro traditional winner The Kill by Luc Eeckhaut.

The winning video was 1932 Revisited by Edward Snijders.

  1. I love it when I find a nudibranch floating in the water column with two emperor shrimp riding on it. And with shutter lag no less. Impressive shot.

    (This is why I don’t bother entering more competitions.)

  3. In Chia Chi Chang’s defense, this type of lighting is easily attainable using a snoot. I don’t think this shot would even be possible had the Nudibranch been disturbed by holding it up or “in the water column”. This is a fantastic shot, especially from a compact, and it deserves recognition + congratulations without the sarcasm.
