Sea & Sea Announces Release of DX-400D Digital SLR Housing
Sea & Sea announces the release of their newest and most technically advanced digital SLR housing. Made specifically for the popular Canon Digital Rebel XTi camera, the DX-400D is Sea&Sea’s first digital underwater housing offering built-in eTTL and eTTL II circuitry.
The DX-400D housing is built of a corrosion-resistant aluminum front case and polycarbonate rear case and offers full functionality of the Rebel XTi’s camera features underwater. It’s compact design fits the camera snugly so it’s incredibly compact and lightweight.
The rear of the case features a large LCD viewing screen and standard .66x pickup viewfinder (optional .8x available) that brings every corner of the camera frame into clear view. The photographer can manipulate and change camera settings underwater with ease. Additionally, an on-board leak sensor immediately notifies the user of water intrusion.
The DX-400D housing with built-in TTL circuitry can be combined with Sea & Sea’s newest YS-110 DS-TTL strobes or other YS series strobes to offer underwater amateur and professional photographers the latest in digital SLR technology.

Interesting that they’ve put the TTL circuitry into the housing itself. Oooh, do I read that right? optional .8x viewfinder? Still not up on the USA S&S;website but its on their Japanese site. The 0.8x viewfinder, list price ¥9,800. Wonder if they can retrofit that onto the older 350D housing…
Nice to see they made the shutter/ aperture dial larger (on the top right). Might able to keep your hand on the trigger and right grip while changing shutter speed or aperture.

Posted by pakman on 01/06 at 08:21 AMIndeed the TTL circuitry is a big improvement. But will we still be able to switch on and off TTL underwater?
