As part of a re-launch of their on-line presence, Gates Underwater Housings has introduced "Shot on Gates", a showcase for beautiful and innovative material shot by Gates users. Gates is actively seeking additional submissions for possible inclusion, the only criteria being that the material must have been taken using Gates product(s.) Films currently being showcased include "Circle of Life" by Simon Spear and "Windows of Life" by Danny Van Belle.

  1. How much are they paying per minute for the privilege of using ‘others’ hard work to promote their products? I really hope they are not expecting freebies as their housings cost enough to make these lovely films ???

  2. Hey DeanB,
I can’t think of any shooters that didn’t want some free exposure at one time or another. As for the cost of Gates housings, I’ve found that the top quality service I’ve received with the purchase of my Gates housing, actually made it less costly than other manufacturers that were much less responsive to my needs.

  3. I agree (sort of) If it was amateur shooters then MAYBE however I, and others i have spoke to, think its a bit much to expect freebies from Pro shooters when companies will, I expect, hope to make money in sales from this promotion. When broadcast comapnies ask for free footage for ‘credits’ it causes uproar in the freelance community ... We are all in business here remember. Although ultimately It’s up to the shooter to do what they want with their footage however, in my mind, it does set a bad example/precedent to others. This industry, for many, is bad enough to make a living as it is.

I’m glad you found Gates to be a cheaper option :-) many do not.
