Tsunami hits Northern Japan and is threatening Pacific

As many of you will know now, Japan was hit by an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude at 2.46 local time today (Friday). It has triggered a tsunami, that has already hit Northern Japan and is now travelling out across the Pacific. Officials warn of the potential for a 6 meter (18 feet) wave.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been or are in the path of this cataclysm, we hope you and your loved ones are holed up somewhere safe and that the waters do not cause devastation to your homes and property.

Comment(s):A less publicized consequence of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. One of the hardest hit localities was Sendai where the factory for most of the high end Nikon cameras are made. The factory was not totally destroyed, but is damaged. And the local infrastructure is in shambles. Nikon has announced that operations are suspended for now. So its a safe bet that any successor to the D700 (D700x or D800 or whatever) is delayed considerably.
And the vultures are swooping in to feed on the carcass. Over the weekend the B&H;price on a D700 body JUMPED UP from $2400 to $2700!
Heading to Bali in two weeks. Plan to keep my mask, fins and snorkel on a chair beside me at dinner and on the bedside table at night.
