Wetpixel member Paul Kay (pgk) has started an interesting topic in the forums. Paul asks:
“Why do you take underwater photographs? Is it because you are fascinated by the marine life, or perhaps a marine scientist who wants to be able to record things better. Are you a wreckie who shoots to help identify the wreck or its features, or is it simply to be able to illustrate to non-divers what it is like where you dive? I’m sure that there are many reasons and wonder if this is the place to see if there are broad categories and what proportion of people fit into each?

10. For the same reasons I photograph everything else in my every-day environment: curiosity.
09. Because I’ve got to do something with those darn college degrees.
08. To compete with Paul Humann in cataloging every known fish (and maybe some unknowns.)
07. So I don’t have to explain to others what I saw.
06. To have something to do with my hands.
05. Because I want to see what I’m seeing in full color.
04. To see the subject in a closer, more detailed and studied manner including seeing things not visible to the floating human eye.
03. Because the underwater world has a palette that I couldn’t even imagine, let alone reproduce on land.
