Hello, Wetpixel readers!  Due to its popularity, DiveFilm is looking for help to host some of its video podcasts.  Each podcast is 12-40MB, and we are looking for donations of server space and bandwidth for archiving of older episodes.

DiveFilm is an independent production created by Mary Lynn Price.  For more information on how you can help, please .

  1. Is there no way you could host it on something like http://grouper.com/ or http://vimeo.com/ both of which do RSS feeds which must be able to be integrated into DiveFilms rss to create a videocast through a DiveFilm group set up on either site .. free .. reliable ... and access for everyone instantly !

  2. I’m sure there would be a way, but we want to encourage people to subscribe via iTunes music store (free).  DiveFilm is one of the few “featured” underwater podcasts, and it’s all about numbers.  If we fall below a certain threshold, we lose featured status.

Anyway, it’s up to Mary Lynn.

  3. But if it is an RSS feed then it can be subscribed to through iTunes can’t it ?

You maybe see if one of those services can make the video’s private except through RSS?

Like flickr upload your own stuff .. add to group.. make the group private .. and then publish the RSS feed to itunes ?

It would be one option and if you can merge RSS feeds you can then take the heat off whatever hosting you have privately as well… I’m thinking out loud .. I don’t know that much about casting .. but i thought it was all through RSS ..

  4. Wow!  The responses have been wonderful!  Here’s what I’m thinking might work.  I could take, say, the first 10 episodes for now and move them to a downloading website.  So the remaining episodes and all the new ones to come (2 to 3 per month) would continue to be part of the current XML file , and the older episodes would remain available for download for those interested.  I want to keep the old episodes in their current format, the question is should they be availble by RSS, or will a straight downloadable file suffice?  What do folks want--an RSS feed for the archived episodes or straight downloadable files (iPod compatible, of course!)

Then the bulk of the episodes and all the new episodes to come would continue to be available as they currently are.

  7. Hi Mary Lynn.
As we discussed two days ago, you can count on me. I’ll be happy to donate up to 2Gb of server space from my http://www.oceanwonders.org website.
Just keep me posted and we’ll take it from there.

  8. Hello All,

First, a great big Thank You to all who offered help with the DiveFilm Podcast hosting issue!  The support has been simply wonderful, and I can’t tell you all how much it means to me.  And because of this support we will be able to keep the earlier episodes available to anyone who is interested.

Jules of HelioxFilm.hu was the first person to contact me with an offer of server space, and it looks like this is going to work out.  Thank you, Jules!!  We’ll be giving this a test run in the next couple of weeks, and if everything works well, we’ll launch a new podcast, DiveFilm Podcast Archive, available through iTunes (and any other podcast/xlm aggregator that supports video enclosures).  We’ll keep everyone posted when this goes live.  And, if for any reason, it turns out that this doesn’t work out I will be contacting those of you who have so graciously and generously offered your help with server space.

Again, I can’t thank you all enough for your expressions of support and offers of server space!  It’s only with the help and support of you filmmakers and web folks that this whole project has been possible.  It is truly a group effort.

    Mary Lynn
