Wetpixel moderator William Heaton has posted a review of the Ikelite underwater housing for the full-frame Canon EOS-5D digital SLR, based on the first production housing to be shipped out. There is an active discussion going on in the forums about the housing, and it looks like Ikelite will incorporate some of Will’s feedback into future housings. Kudos to Ikelite for reacting so quickly to customer feedback, and thanks to William for such a thorough review.
Thanks for a really well done review.
The 5D is way out of my price league, but I did enjoy learning about port issues.
I just came back from a week in Curacao using D-5 and Ike housing. Shot Canon 20WA 50 & 100 macros. The housing is excellant and no port problems re: above lenses. Agree the port locks of old Ikes gave me the willies but the new locks and the ability to have a housing w/ sync and great viewing optics in the housing have stilled all bad memories. Ike’s service is w/o peer. The price is also w/o peer. 8” ports have no discernable quality superiority based upon my 20 & 28 mm lens shots at Stuart Cove’s operation in comparision against their 8 inchers used on a daily basis at the Cove. Price per value--no one can compete. I own and use Sea and Sea housings and DX 90’s w/ D-60 which will fire the D-20. Would I like threaded ports YES! On a night dive I blew away most pics w/ dual Ike 100’s in manual mode, problem was probably with my unfamiliarity with using supplied buttons re: suppression. I merely add my opinion here that with this product Ike has a winner.
