Ikelite now offers a genuine Aquatica 8” dome port fitted with a special base plate for use with their housings.
The new dome looks great. Can’t wait to get one underwater.
I’ve never seen a less enthusiasitic ad for a product though--not to say I disagree with the statement.
Unanswered is which lenses this port will fit. Does this mean you use aquatica extension rings to adjust for different lenses? How does the adapter length factor intro the equation?
I’d like to use it with the Nikon 10.5mm, 12-24mm and 60mm along with the Sigma 15 FE. What do I need?
Looking at the side view, and from the related [url="http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7735"]thread[url] (see kdietz’ contribution), the “neck” on the port is too long for the 10.5 (or similar-sized Nik 16mmFE) to be used without vignetting. For the rest, we await an updated port chart.
The enthusiasm around the ad made me laugh, as I can imagine it straight from Ike’s mouth. :)
Yup, seems straight out of Ike’s mouth. I’ve had the discussion before. I used to shoot the 20mm behind the Ike dome with the N90s with awful results. I’m not the only one, either. If people are having unsatisfactory results, this may be the solution. I haven’t seen the problem as much with digital SLRs. I’m not sure if it is the crop factor, or maybe just that wide angle shots haven’t been that wide. The Ike dome and the 24mm were perfect.
Hi folks,
I have pool tested the 8” dome with the Canon 20D and 10-22 lens. I am out of town right now but hope to have my report online this weekend. Results were very good.
Sincerely,
James Wiseman
Can’t wait to see your report, James. I’ve gotten very soft corners with Ikelite’s recommended port with my 10-22 lens.
