Wetpixel administrator James Wiseman has been elected Member of the Year by HUPS - the Houston Underwater Photographic Society. HUPS is one of the largest and most active uw photo societies in the US, hosting a photo gallery and presentations at Seaspace, offering quarterly photo workshops, and a monthly digital and slide photography contest.
Here’s a summary of the letter James received from the HUPS president after my nomination and election as member of the year.
“My nominee for HUPS Member of the Year for 2005 has consistently contributed his time and talent to make HUPS a better organization...Perhaps James’s most significant contribution to HUPS is in the area of digital photography. He shares his exptertise with others in many ways, including workshops, monthly meeting topics, and newsletter articles. He has also been in the forefront in prosing new and exciting activities such as the Flower Gardens UW Photography Workshop that is planned for the summer of 2006… HUPS has been fortunate to have James as a member and a frequent contributor. Now it’s time for us to honor him as Member of the Year.”
I’ve never met James, but twice, just days before dive trips, he has come through and helped me with hardware issues which otherwise would have left me either without my camera, or with a disappointing result from my camera. No doubt, he’s done the same for many others. It’s great he’s receiving this recognition.

Nice picture of James. Who took that picture? Oh, it was me.
Don’t worry Dennis - I gave you photo credit in the review where the picture was published :-)
Thanks Dennis.
