Final Call: Our World Underwater 2016
The deadline for entries to the 2016 Our World Underwater contest is here! All entries need to be in by today, 6 February at 11:59PM PST. In case you aren’t aware, the Our World Underwater contest is the first part of the Underwater Imaging series, which offers up $100K in total prizes. This year’s Our World Underwater contest also offers a $1,000 cash prize to the “Best in Show” winner.
UW Technics releases TTL converter
At the recent BOOT Show, Subal, Nauticam, BS Kinetics and others were showing or offering new TTL circuitry that enables both electric and fiber optic TTL (and manual) triggering of strobes. Wetpixel has done a little digging, and can now reveal the actual specifications of the board. Currently available only for Nikon cameras, and for use with Z240 and YS-D1/D2 strobes, there are plans to launch versions for Canon and perhaps Sony, as well as for additional strobes.

Sony announces the α6300 mirrorless camera
Sony has announced the α6300 mirrorless camera. It features a 24.2MP APS-C sized sensor with the BIONZ X image processing engine to give a native ISO range of 100 to 51,200. The camera’s AF system features 425 phase detection AF points resulting in the claim that it has the fastest AF system of any APS-C sized camera. 4K video in Super 35mm format is available with a data rate of 100Mbps.
Wild Oceans: Crab uses urchin shield
Earth Touch Wild Oceans has uploaded a new video filmed by Mark Thorpe. The video features a crab using a fire urchin as a shield by carrying the critter on its back. This remarkable symbiosis situation protects the crab from hungry predators while the urchin gets a ride to a free meal.

Wetpixel and Dive Photo Guide’s Our World Underwater photo contest is approaching its final deadline for entries. The contest is one of the biggest and most respected underwater imaging competitions in the world, and the winners will share in over $10,000 worth of prizes.
