WuZhiZhou International Underwater Carnival

The 6th Annual San Diego UnderSea Film Exhibition is scheduled for October 14th and 15th, 2005, at the state-of-the-art, large-format digital theater at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park.
Entries for the festival are due on July 15th, 2005 (The call for entries says July 1st, but a forum posting specifies July 15th as the deadline).
Unfortunately, entries are only accepted in NTSC form, so those of you who are shooting PAL will have to convert your mastered films. Continue reading for entire text of call for entries.
Phil Askey has posted an in-depth review of the Nikon D2x digital SLR camera. This model has recently raised quite a lot of interest in the underwater photography community and Phil’s review is a “must-read” for photographers considering purchasing this camera.
Steve Sanders has also posted an in-depth review at Steve’s Digicams.

If the image on the right doesn’t convince you to come with us to the Bahamas next year, I don’t know what will!
Trip dates are March 12-20, 2006, and will (weather permitting) resemble this year’s trip, with numerous tiger sharks and great hammerhead posing for photographs.

UPDATE 5/30/05: Trip is booked full. Get in contact with me to get on the waiting/notification list (in case there are cancellations or a second trip planned).
Jack E. Randall and the University of Hawai’i Press have published a new fish identification book from the South Pacific. This book may be more interesting than other ID books because it is full of entries containing scientific names, dates described, and accounts by the author(s) who first described the fish.
The UH Press site is running a 20% sale through the month of May, but if would like to purchase the book after May, you can use this .pdf coupon for 20% off until the end of the 2005.

A quote from Stan Waterman on the UR Pro website sums it up for me: “URPRO filters provided dependable color balance to an otherwise monochromatic blue world…I depend on them”. If they are good enough for Stan, then I reckon they are worth a try…”
